An old girlfriend of mine was super into Chris Ware, but I was too deep into Marvel / DC at the time to really understand the brilliance of Ware’s work. I recently bought his ‘Building Stories’ for $5 on eBay, and have thoroughly been enjoying it. 20 years later, I now get it. Each page is truly beautiful, but it’s also the slower-paced storytelling that’s phenomenal. I recently gave up my monthly comic book subscription, and it feels good to enjoy something more independent.
