Self-Isolation: Week Eighteen

Lots happening this week, and some really fun projects on the real work side of things too, so it’s been a productive few days. I’ve been really enjoying the more icon-based graphic work, and while a lot of it feels like it’s coming to an end, it’s nice to try and keep refining it and seeing where else I can go. Also experimented with a few more painted pieces, and finally got around to making something with subtitles - something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.

On the gaming side, I blasted through Injustice in a couple of days, really while I was waiting for Ghost Of Tsushima to come out on Friday, which has been great fun to start playing through, especially the Kurosawa render mode, which turns the whole experience into a fifties black-and-white samurai movie. I’ll most likely be playing that for the next few weeks as there’s a ton to explore and I’m really enjoying the different pace of the game.

In other news, I’ve been listening to the Death Stranding soundtrack, Cocteau Twins, Pop Will Eat Itself, Marion and Ian Brown this week. I’m thinking about leaving Twitter as I think my time there has naturally reached an end (I had one of those "‘why the hell am I still showing up here’ moments this week) - it’s about a year ago since I left Facebook and Instagram, with no regrets at all, and Twitter is starting to feel the same way. I wish their ‘export your data’ option wasn’t busted at the moment through, as I’d probably be out of there sooner if I could get that. I also read Jonathan Hickman’s ‘Dawn of X’ graphic novel (Volume 1), so more of those are on their way in the mail this week too.

I’ve also started to dive into more arthouse movie watching - I started with the Russian version of Sobibor (I remember watching the TV movie version of this as a kid), which I very much enjoyed, as well as Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo. Lots more lined up from Wenders, Greenaway, Tarkovsky and more for the next few weeks. That feels like a much better use of time than sat mindlessly in front of Twitter.
