Self-Isolation: Week Nine

As the fatigue of the ninth week of self-isolation kicks in, I’ve had a fairly productive week of creative experiments, just keeping myself occupied and mentally healthy as we all take things day by day. This week I thought a lot about Brexit, continued to think about chess grandmasters, revisited some recent work around national identities, made some new postcards, and played a lot of Uncharted - completing the second and third installments of the game. I’m about halfway through the (much, much longer) fourth episode right now.

The Will Of The People (2020)
I’ve been wanting to make something that used the political phrases of the Brexit, and post-Brexit leave campaigns for a while now. This is as far as I got… so far.

Romantic Mash-Ups (2020)

Argie Bargie (2020)

Some late-night (very late-night) thoughts on breeding and identity politics.

The Virtue Of The Vicious (2020)
I’ve always loved the false narratives of combining different elements of history into a single, new thread. For more on this idea, I’d recommend Liam Gillick’s ‘Erasmus Is Late’

Shadbolts Past (2020)

I’m descended from these brave chaps.

There Are Exits (2020)
I don’t often make physical objects, but when I do it’s always so much fun. I sent a bunch of these out to friends all over the world this week, and I love the thought of these going through the mail at the moment.

Destiny 2 (Weekly Reset Livestream 5.12.2020)
Now that I’ve hit 1000 power, a lot of this is just grinding out increasingly incremental progress, which isn’t that much fun. I’ll probably not do another one of these for a while until there’s something new to do.

Uncharted (Playthroughs 2020)

This was suggested by a work friend, and has been a ton of fun. The Nathan Drake collection was available for free in the Playstation Store, so I got the first 3 episodes for free and I’m about half way through the fourth one right now. The stories are fantastic, and the action sequences, especially the train convoy in the second episode, and the plane crash sequence in the third, was amazing to play through.

The fourth episode is much, much slower, with the puzzles much easier. Still a lot of fun, but I miss the swash and buckle of the previous three installments (I’m still really enjoying designing the thumbnails for these videos).
