Self-Isolation: Week Twelve
Like many of us around the country, I haven’t really felt like making work this past week. I’ve mainly been redecorating my daughter’s bedroom, but I worked on a few small things, from thinking about the lost art of a great contact sheet, to the nature of how headlines and abstracts change over time, and experimented with my first set of VR environments, which was a lot of fun.
Throughout the work week I’ve mainly been listening to a lot of Britpop, and fondly reminiscing about my times at The Marquee, The Astoria, The Good Mixer, and all those other long lost venues in London. Over the past few months I’ve been buying up a lot of old Britpop vinyl - things I’ve only ever had on tape since the nineties. Perhaps I’m just missing my work clothes, which tend to be very ‘Modern Life Is Rubbish’-era Blur, or perhaps I’m just missing being able to go to gigs again. Some of these thoughts came together in the ‘Starshaped’ series below. Either way, I’m just very nostalgic for a return to crowds being able to enjoy music together.
